I remember when tech news sites used to (rightfully) harp on about Chinese tech companies and how they should not be trusted given they satisfy every whim of the CCP.
But now large tech companies in America can't even challenge the naming of a Lake and just folded, meekly.
My thoughts on AI and how it's going to disrupt jobs is evolving.
I was very much in the doomer category last year, but less so now. For someone working in Accounting/Finance/Revenue roles, who has always had a keen interest on tech and software development (but never dedicated enough time to really learn a language to build something of my own), I had many ideas on tools that could be useful in my job - just never had the skill to build it.
Now that I have AI, I'm experimenting with building some of these solutions, but I must say: software development is hard. Yes, it would be a lot easier if I had others to work with, especially for things like UI/UX, understanding some of the more complex backend decisions etc. I imagine if I find it hard, people that haven't really been following tech trends would find it even harder.
Yes, you could get away with vibe coding a tool that only you would use, but once it goes beyond that, and it needs to be shared with colleagues, or if the aspiration is to market it, there are so many decisions one needs to make to be at least close to world class quality.
Things may change as more advanced models come about, but at this stage, I still think unless you're a seasoned developer with good design taste and UX experience, you need a team of people with various skills to build something that you hope to GTM with.
It's fun, though. I've created a few tools internally that has saved me so much time and developed functionality I would never have even entertained the idea of pre-agentic coding. I hope my career moves toward building solutions in this domain.

From the sysadmin PoV it's never "one guy" or even "just two"; what is common, however, is just one or two policemen, one or two soldiers, or one two judges make the news and the limelight of public prosecutions.
It's good to be seen to be tackling this kind of behaviour, rarely ever good (apparently) to fully rip the band aid off and report just how wide spread such behaviour can go.
I can't find the stat, but if memory serves me correctly, NZ over-indexes in CSAM-related crime. It's unfortunate, but it's not always good news down on our little islands.

This is disappointing. I bought a PS5 Pro mostly for this game. I didn’t want to make the trade off between graphics and frame rate, which seemed to be what the base PS5 often makes people do (from what I read).
I guess we can hope for a future update once they figure out how to optimize more.
If you have a jailbroken PS5, you can get FPS patches that unlock the framerate for many games. RDR2 runs smoothly at 60FPS in 1080p with the patch [1]. I suspect that such patches will be released for GTA6 as well soon after release
Yeah, I'm a bit disappointed as well. Based on what I've read on various forums, I'm not holding my breath for any future updates that will unlock higher fps given CPU is already constrained, and PS5 Pro's benefits over the PS5 is GPU.
I guess it will be a typical Rockstar play of buying the PS6 version to get 60fps.
Virtually all offices I've worked in, the bathrooms have been less than ideally used by colleagues. The people you'd class as 'commons' may not be having public sex, shooting up drugs, but many can be dirty and/or selfish. And this is in an office where cleaners regularly clean the facilities (I'd hazard more frequently than public toilets are cleaned). There's always be pee on the floor, pee on the seat, etc etc.
For several months, we had someone pissing on the floor of the men's room. I work at an engineering firm in the suburbs, these people all make $100k+ and most are senior professionals. I don't know if they found him by figuring out badge swipes (he hit a lot of bathrooms) or if he just stopped on his own.
It's also entirely possible it was mass hysteria. Sometimes people miss the urinal and maybe some did it to be funny after the signs went up.
As someone who doesn't work in this field (I'm in boring old Accounting/Finance), but would like to learn this field (both to future-proof my skillset, but also because I have an interest in it), would it be wise for me to learn math?
Is it something that's going to be fundamental for future technologies?
I always plan to learn, but end up in a death spiral feeling like I'll invest so much time and energy only for the puck to have moved somewhere completely different.
What brand does not do scummy things like this, or that I can easily avoid by not requiring me to download an app to set up?
