macOS 15 should be getting security updates until at least the end of next year. I've been using it for ~2 years and I'll happily spend another year using it.

Correct me if I'm wrong but it's my understanding that macOS 15 security updates are only made available for devices for which 15 is the last compatible macOS version.

That's not how it's worked in the past. They did security updates until three versions later released regardless of the hardware. What you may be thinking of is that there was some weirdness around Intel vs M series chips and how those got updates.

Parent is thinking iOS/iPadOS, not macOS. Older devices that are not capable of running iOS 26 are still receiving security updates for iOS 18, but any device supported by iOS 26 is not. It's a real hard push by Apple to get people to swallow Liquid Glass by withholding security updates.

Reminds me of how they allow OEMs to install bloatware through Windows update now. I believe LG did something that leads to various app installs when you connect their monitors via HDMI.

Nearly no chance idTech is being used for anything outside of the few franchises that leverage it, as modern idTech versions are mainly geared towards just those FPS games. id Software has been decimated too in the recent layoffs, and there's questions over the future of idTech

What a shame too. Quake Wars on idTech performed incredibly well for such large maps and so many players. The vehicles were also fun to drive.

What's also great about NMS is its all running on a custom bespoke engine they've built for the game and properly invested in. Wish they'd do more talks and deep dives into how it has all progressed, and how much it paid off for them. Things are getting far too homogenised around UE5 in game dev.

There's still no x86_64 processors on the market with MTE and it was only recently standardised between Intel and AMD. It's going to be 10+ years before memory tagging is widespread on desktop, and 5 years for Android/iOS devices.

There's some positive news from the GrapheneOS devs on Pixel 11 in the past week that's worth reading up on. The MTE hardware feature is still there, they're just not sure why Google disabled it

I am well-aware, closely following them on Mastodon. That's why I said may have hampered. There may be some CPU errata that posed them to disable it.

I'd used NextDNS for a while but the service kept degrading with more timeouts regardless if you were on free/paid. Haven't had any issues with Quad9

For working with processes and software development on Windows, this replacement looks useless. I use Sysinternals Process Explorer daily at work, and that'll continue being immensely useful.

Ripped off with using a free tool to do basic task management and get better viz than default TM? To each their own, I've used SPE and I much prefer TS for my simple needs.

You might find some interest in System Informer, a sort of spiritual successor to Process Explorer!

I've disabled auto-update for PayPal in the Play Store and also Disabled the app locally (so I can re-enable when rarely needed). They'll force people to update soon enough given how banking apps are.

The latest updates still work on GrapheneOS with the per-app secure spawning toggle disabled. It's a bug in their anti-tampering code.

I got an unsolicited LinkedIn connection request from a Sales Rep at Caligra (who wrote in the note) offering to 'send one over' to me essentially as a "trial" of this workstation. Says a lot that this is a serious part of their sales strategy.
