I think we should be happy when this happens as it encourages more players to be active in AI, and us not rely on only two companies

[self promo warning]

jellyfin 12 available as hosted option on malmo. one click install

https://malmo.network/store/jellyfin

[self promo warning] Setting up self hosting alternatives like immich is still the biggest adoption barrier out there. Most people are not technical. I had the same problem even as a technical personal.

I built malmo to solve that. 1 click install for immich malmo.network/store/immich

Underlying OS fully open source, install it on your own box or use a hosting provider

I don't think cost is the main reason you should move. Things like photos, gmail are definitely subsided by google so it's not a fair comparison. It's getting pretty easy to add backup for self hosting so that is becoming the smallest problem. Agree with you, still worth it

You can. But it's a more manual process. Under gdpr you can request total deletion of your data

Out of all the companies that could have acquired hugging face, I think nvidia is the best fit. If it had to happen, happy it was them

Disagree. When it comes to AI, mvidia has been one of the most open labs. They open source a lot things and are open to contributions

On web I use an adblocker to block annoying google popups, including the Gemini one in gmail.

Immich is an amazing alternative. People should give it a chance. One click install: https://malmo.network/store/immich

That was a good way of thinking you had. It still is.

Malmo OS has the same mission as sandstome but I guess the focus is more around docker containers

As others said, baserow is a good one. Pretty easy to self-host with something like https://malmo.network/store/baserow (founder here)
