I'm from Europa and consider China a far bigger threat. Trump is probably going to get replaced by a Democrat in a few years. China has been ruled by dictators for decades and probably will be for decades and they are a lot more hostile to democratic nations.
It definitely makes sense for stuff like (non-US) gov domains. Have a federal agency control the `gov.<ccTLD>` domain and hand out subdomains to other agencies. See https://dachmarke.gov.de/ for example.
But I agree it makes no sense for public sales to the wider world such as `co.uk`. At least have the registrar be the govt company register and hand out subdomains to each registered company.
You might not even need to go through HE. Many ISPs allow you to set your own PTR records / rDNS delegations if you ask them, since this is also necessary to host email servers.
In cities cars have no reason to exist. You can combine better scalable public transit (light rail, subways, trains) with bikes/scooters and you get best of both worlds. Have been living in one for years without a need for a car.
I agree overall, with the caveat that it really depends on the infrastructure available and sprawl. I had flown in to a city late at night, and all the subways and busses had stopped for the night. My only option was a taxi or stay at the airport.
There are many things like moving furniture or even larger amounts of groceries that are infinitely harder without a car.
And then there is also the question of the environment on that public transport. IME "good enough that complaints remain manageable" seems to be the target here unlike a car where you can have private entertainment and air conditioning (not to mention sufficient ventilation) to whatever level you wish.
And even for relatively frequent public transit routes you end up wasting quite a bit of time waiting. Even more so if your start and destination don't happen to be close to the same route.
You don't need to move furniture every week, so you can always rent a van for that. Using a car for the 500m to my nearest supermarket seems a bit silly, but these days our groceries are delivered to the front door.
All of this is a matter of how you design your cities. Some have been designed so you have no choice but to use a car, others have been designed so you don't need a car at all. I know you don't control the design of your city, but others do. They could be making different decisions.

Either rent a van or pay a moving company. Its not like you do this every week and it will still be cheaper if you do this every few years than paying for your own car.

In high density cities this just doesnt exist. Grocery shops are at worst a few blocks away, you can just go more often or just use your own shopping cart (or equivalent)

I get air conditioning in my cities bus/light rail/subways and its on a acceptable average level
And imo "entertainment" is a lot better in public transit where i can not only listen to music but also watch videos/read books/play games. When you are driving you shouldnt even be listening to an audio book since you could become distracted while operating your heavy machinery that can easily kill.

Here subways/light rails comes every three to 10 minutes, this is not a problem.
GrapheneOS is a non-profit, publicly naming the actual issues is the only thing they can do to make Google fix those issues. And it is clear that security/privacy is their first priority, not "brand image"
Some on HN defend everything GOS does (maybe not you, but there are some). Those people are hurting GOS.
Good security engineering isn't sufficient: GOS could accomplish the security engineering by making an OS for themselves on a private git server and never distributing it.
But if we want to help the public with security and privacy, then the outcome depends on GOS's brand image - perception drives public adoption, who will never read long posts on arcane engineering matters. It depends on GOS's relationship with Google and its individual engineers, a relationship in which Google and the engineers hold all the cards - they could choose to cut off GOS completely tomorrow at no cost to themselves.
It's an engineer's fantasy that you can ignore those things and just do engineering; life just isn't like that. Doing that would imperil or greatly limit GOS, which hurts everyone.
Tbf with all the information that has come to light since then Rossmann and FUTO were also not behaving correctly and it was fair from him to deny coming onto their show (where they have also invited fascists before)
Why not Large Modular reactors? You’ll produce fewer of every component, making it less feasible to set up an assembly line for it. You’ll build everything bespoke, because you’ll only build it a few times.
But assembly as well. People learn by doing. The second reactor will be built quicker than the first and third will be quicker than the second.
And you can see it in the Rolls-Royce order book. 3 separate countries have ordered 3 reactors to start with. An order book of 9 reactors strongly incentivises setting up an assembly line.
Then you have the additional expense of bringing the power ashore, and of building the breakwater. Most coastal sites are environmentally sensitive - think of Trump's hatred for offshore wind turbines, and imagine how people would feel about something so much more massive!
But in a slightly more-plausible vein, Rolls Royce are pushing mid-sized MRs in the 0.5 GW range, with the selling point that they can be built on the location of ex-fossil fuel or 1st gen nuclear power plants.
They're still more expensive per MWh than a modern large nuclear plant, but have the benefit of reusing existing grid connections and other infrastructure. Whether that's actually enough to make them a commercial success is another matter, but there's a chance they could prove a useful stopgap until grid-scale storage costs come down further.
And what if that actually leads to less open-ness? If I license code under a copyleft license, users are forced to give back their changes to the public. Without copyright they would not be forced to do this, which means less work will be published.
This would also mean copyleft would not work anymore. Companies would not be forced to release the source code of their modifications of (A)GPL software.
And AFAIK the US has not even claimed Greenland.
