I'm personally atheistic, and thus have no religious practices whatsoever. However, just like it's legal to build churches, to ring church bells, to wear visible religious imagery, it's also legal and highly protected to talk to others, even strangers, about your religious beliefs (or lack thereof).
Not sure if they tried to do this in the UK, which I believe has very different standards to the USA for what it means for something to be a legitimate religious practice. In the USA I believe they actually succeeded in obtaining various religious exemptions, such as wearing a collander on their head in driver's license photos.
